Chicks Everywhere!

I have wanted chickens for a couple of years, but my husband was always, “No, maybe next year.” Then COVID-19 happened and it seemed like the perfect time to invest in chickies. We purchased four ISA Brown chicks from our local Tractor Supply and I ordered six Barred Rock pullets from Chickens for Backyards.

The ISA’s are one month older than the Rocks, so we had to keep them separate in the brooder due to size difference.

They did well, except for when the tiny Rocks got scared and squeezed into the side with the bigger chicks. Of course, at first the ISA’s were afraid of the tiny Rocks. But we didn’t dawdle to get them out. I know chickens have pecking orders and those tiny Rocks would absolutely be at the lowest!

I’m enjoying my chicks, but it’s time for the ISA’s to go outside. The Rocks will follow in a week or so. I’m going to enjoy watching them scratch around and peck. And also, making them my friends!
