The day finally arrived! After nearly two years of waiting, we have finally hatched some goats. I mean, birthed some goats. In May 2020, I tried to breed two of our does. Neither got pregnant so in the fall, I stuck one of our bucks with all of the girls, thinking that maybe a few would catch pregnant.
Well.
They all caught pregnant.
The past week has been a whirlwind of births on our little farm. Our four does produced seven kids! Wow. I wasn’t expecting that at all! All of the mamas delivered healthy babies and I was able to be there for one of them. My husband was there for another and the last two delivered in the night.
I was so anxious as their due dates approached. I’m so grateful that everyone is healthy. We’re keeping three little doelings and selling two doelings and two bucklings.
My plans to breed in the future will be much more staggered. I plan to only breed two at a time so they will not overwhelm us again.
